Welcome to our 2022 Advent Devotional! We are thrilled you chose to participate in this study as we wait in joyful expectation of Christmas.
Adventus, the Latin root for Advent means coming. The purpose of Advent is to prepare our hearts for The Lord’s coming, both through remembrance of His birth and preparation for His return.
This time of intentional waiting consists of the four Sundays leading up to Christmas day and focuses on the virtues of Christ: hope, peace, joy and love.
HOW TO USE THIS GUIDE
Take notes as you read:
As you read, invite the Holy Spirit to guide your heart and mind and write down what He’s doing. Ask yourself how you’ve experienced the hope, peace, joy and love of Christ or where you feel it lacking in your heart.
Meditate on scripture:
There is a daily meditation verse at the end of each daily reading. Spend a few minutes reading and re-reading that verse, and ask God for grace to understand and interpret what it is saying to you.
Talk it through:
Get together with a few friends, your family, your neighbors or your group to read through the devotional together and talk about it. It’s amazing what God can do when we gather together around His word and let ourselves be encouraged and exhorted by it and by one another.

As you engage this study, you’ll find each week is focused on the four virtues of hope, peace, joy and love, and will consist of daily material to help you reflect on Christ’s birth and its implications both personally and historically, through the lens of that virtue.
